On July 7, 2016 I found out that I had breast cancer in my left breast but before I get into my sickness and why I've created this fund I'd like to tell you a little about myself, if I may.
My name is Posie Lewis. I have worked as a Dog Groomer for over 18 years. I am a single mother of 10 dogs and 7 cats. I was unable to have children of my own so I decided to make it my life's work to help save and rescue animals. This has truly been my life's calling. Every animal I have saved or rescued has and will always be my children and the loves of my life.
Unfortunately, living alone with this many fur babies money can be tight. Rest assured though my babies will always eat before me.
When I found out that I had breast cancer I was terrified and shocked and as each day goes by I am becoming more and more aware of how difficult and financially burdening that this has and will become.
I have recently undergone one surgery to remove the mass at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL (of which I will be at patient at for the next 5 years) and as luck would have it my insurance is requiring me to pay 20% for this recent surgery, upcoming surgeries, any additional medicines, radiation and further doctor visits from this point forward which has truly been devastating to me.
I am currently awaiting the results of what stage cancer I am in. If the doctor restricts me from lifting anything heavy, then I will be forced to be on short or long term disability because I am a Dog Groomer and lifting is the majority of my duties. For anyone who's been on disability knows that this cuts your paycheck in half.
I am trying to stay as positive as I can for my babies and myself but I feel as though I am slowing drowning in a financial crisis. This is why I am reaching out in way possible to help relieve some of the stress from these growing medical bills so that I can keep moving forward healthy in life and more importantly to continue my calling to rescue and save helpless and mistreated animals.
