Note from Porter- "Hey guys.... My name is Porter and I am 7 years old. I am in 2nd grade at East Lake elementary school in south Jordan Utah! I love bike riding, dancing, playing minecraft, roblox and the Wii. I love playing with my friends and I think I am pretty cool. I really want a dog so I can have confidence and not fear the world or the people in it. People can be so mean sometimes and they don't always understand that people with Autism have feelings too. Rockwell is so cool, I can't wait to have him live with me. "

Porter was diagnosed non-verbal autistic when he was three years old. Since that time, he has beaten the odds and become fully verbal. Though he is a charming and kind boy who has overcome a lot, he still struggles with many of the challenges that come with being on the autism spectrum in a world that often doesn’t fully understand or accept difference.
Porter is kind and generous, and he always amazes his teachers with his academic abilities and high IQ. He is outgoing and affectionate, which has helped him to make friends easily. Unfortunately, he doesn’t yet fully understand the social skills it takes to maintain friendships. He can sometimes say hurtful things without knowing that he is being hurtful or how he has hurt someone.

Porter himself has said that this is part of the reason he wishes to have a service animal. He would like to have a best friend that he won’t accidentally hurt with his words and who will always be there for him. Autism service animals can help people with autism feel more in control in situations and in a world where they, sadly, have very little control.

Please help us get a service animal for Porter. He is a valuable member of our family and there is nothing we’d like more than to see him happy and able to achieve all that he is capable of.

Porter already has his future best friend being trained right now, his name is ROCKWELL! He is a beautiful Labradoodle that was rescued. Rockwell and Porter are already united as brothers and Porter can not wait to have him love, protect and comfort him when the world gets too tough.
