Help our Elephants Endure Covid-19

WHO WE ARE:

Phang Nga Elephant Park is a unique, small, family-run Eco-Park located in the Phang Nga province of southern Thailand. We are dedicated to providing our elephants with the highest quality-of-life possible and work hard to create public awareness to help improve the care and well-being of Thailand’s elephants.

Our family has always had a very close relationship with elephants – man’s biggest friend on earth. For more than 150 years, we have cared for elephants at home or working in our fields. In the past, just as draught horses were used in the West, our elephants worked in the forests carrying timber.

We opened the Park in 2015 so that we could keep our family’s domesticated elephants in a caring and stress-free environment and offer our visitors an extraordinary and very special experience. Today, our elephants show our visitors the lovely countryside surrounding the Park. Each elephant is a member of the family; they all have their own names, different personalities and we love them dearly.

OUR MISSION:

Animal welfare is at the heart of Phang Nga Elephant Park. We believe that education and the commitment to achieve the highest levels of care and husbandry is the best way to help save the Asian elephant.

The elephant must always come first and we select our Mahouts (elephant handlers) very carefully. It is our mission to be a role model for education and high animal welfare standards in Thailand.

HERE'S THE PROBLEM:

Our elephants urgently need your help to survive the COVID-19 outbreak.

The primary source of income to provide food, shelter, and care for our elephants is through tourism. As COVID-19 has caused a near total collapse of Thailand's tourism industry, we will struggle to maintain our ten elephants through these trying times.

Elephants need to consume between 5-10% of their body weight (or 200-400 kg) of food EVERY DAY.  With severely limited alternatives for owners to earn money to provide food, many elephants are slowly starving.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

If you are in a position to contribute and you have the means to take action, we hope you will donate today.  No dollar amount is too small, and anything you can provide will be greatly appreciated!

It costs about 500 baht ($24 AUD, £12 €14) to feed each elephant every day. So for 10 elephants, that is 5000 baht ($240 AUD, £123 €141) per day or 150 000 baht $7253AUD,  £3690, €4243,  $4613 USD) per month!

100% of donations (less the 2.9% and $0.30 per donation transaction fee) will go directly to our elephants as well as their Mahouts so they can feed and care for their elephants (and families) during this difficult time.

Thank you very much for your consideration. Stay safe and remember we are all in this together.
