PETER OYLER’S LAST ‘RAAM-FOR-JACK’

Donation protected
I’m Peter Oyler and many of you know me as the owner of mindset Cycling in Toronto, Canada.

I am asking for your support for my fourth and final Race Across America (RAAM) to define the limits of human endurance and most importantly raise awareness and funds for youth mental health in Canada.

RAAM,  as it’s known,  is a non-stop cycling race from San Diego County to Annapolis, Maryland. At over 3,000 miles, it is about 30% longer than the Tour de France, but must be completed in half the time. To finish within the twelve-day time limit, racers must pedal as many as 20 plus hours a day, endure temperatures from zero to 46 degrees centigrade, and climb 170,000 vertical feet. That’s six times the height of Mount Everest.

All funds raised here beyond the cost of staging my race will go to Jack.org.  Jack.org is Canada’s only charity training and empowering young leaders to revolutionize mental health in every province and territory.

Endurance racing has taught me what we as humans are capable of – sometimes the hard way. In 2009, I had to stop when I went into kidney failure after pushing myself too hard for too long. But I took what I learned and tried the race again in 2013 and produced my fastest cross-continental finish time yet: 10 days, 15 hours and 16 minutes, an average speed of 18.8 km/h.

So why do it again? Simply put, I believe there is more in me and what I can do after the event. More important, it is time to get endurance racing out of my system so I can devote myself fully to helping others push their own boundaries. I have inspired so many clients to do everything from their first Gran Fondo, to Ironman Triathlons and 900-mile cycling races. I have so much knowledge to share. It is time to make other people’s dreams my sole focus.

RAAM leaves Oceanside, California June 11th, 2019. In order to get to Annapolis, I need a crew of eight, three support vehicles, food, flights, hotels, and to ship equipment. I am pursuing sponsorship opportunities, so there is a good chance there will be funds left over that I will donate to jack.org. I ask anyone not wishing to contribute to the race itself, to please consider making a direct donation to jack.org using the following link:  https://jack.akaraisin.com/community/PeterOyler

Some of you are new to my RAAM dreams, while many many others are great supporters from past races.  I thank you all for your continued faith in me.
