As many of you know, my preschool-aged daughter is a type 1 diabetic who had been doing very well on a reduced-carbohydrate diet as described in the book Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution: the complete guide to achieving normal blood sugars, by Dr. Richard K. Bernstein.  Unfortunately, I was reported to Child Protective Services (CPS) for implementing this diet by a third party with no medical training, and a limited understanding of type 1 diabetes.  My daughter's former endocrinologist was un-supportive of low-carb. dietary adjunct therapies, and when contacted by CPS, insisted that a 130 g of carbohydrate per day minimum intake be required.  There is now a court order enforcing this very high-carbohydrate diet which is causing my child digestive issues, psychological resistance to eating against her appetite, and out-of range blood sugars.  As well, there is a custody dispute directly relating to my having fed my child a low-carb. diet which was the only intervention thus far that ever kept her blood glucose in her target range.  I would like to get my daughter back on her diet as soon as possible.  This is going to require funds for attorney fees, and transportation for expert witnesses.  Let's get together to make some headway in the family court system, so that no parents ever have to feel afraid of legal repercussions for making responsible, informed treatment choices for their child!  THIS is our moment to take a stand, because  "Everyone deserves normal blood sugars"    -Dr. Dichard K. For legal reasons I cannot publish my daughter’s name and show you a photo. The issue for us is not the exact number of carbohydrate grams she should have. It should be a range of carbohydrates that gives her normal blood sugars and allows her to grow as healthy as possible with minimal blood sugar highs and lows. We all want what is best for her. So I am in a legal battle and I need your financial and moral support.
