Paul Ryan Hodgkin Lymphoma Fund

Hi Everyone.  My name is Javier and I am Matt's baseball coach.  I have known Matt and his family for a relatively short time.  In that time, I've had the pleasure of  getting to know them and they have proven to be a loving and genuine family; always involved and caring for the kids on the team.

On Thursday, October 26, 2017, Matt's dad, Paul was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  About a month prior, Paul noticed a soft mass on his neck.  Initially, it was dismissed by the doctor as a swollen lymph node.  Complications continued.  Paul was not feeling well during his wife's, Emily, graduation.  His head began to swell and he was feeling very strained with significant dizzy spells.  The chest pains were significant.  The following Sunday, the Ryan family went to the ER and it was determined Paul had SVC Syndrome (Superior Vena Cava Syndrome).  SVC is a mass located on a major vein within the body.  It carries blood to the head, neck, chest and heart.  Such a diagnosis is frequently cancerous and in Paul's case, it was Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Many tests ensued.  Bone Marrow. Biopsys. Pet scans. CT Scans. Echocardiograms. Five days later, he received his Port-a-Cath in his leg; a medium by which the Chemotherapy would be administered.  Paul is currently undergoing treatment and is expected to for the following six months.

The reason I am writing this for the Ryan family is because of my family's experiences.  One of Matt's teammates is my son, Lucas.  On 09/04/2014, Lucas was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia.  Because of the amazing and generous support from our family, friends and persons we've never met through GoFundMe, we were able to navigate those rough waters a family has to go through.

Please believe me when I tell you, although, Paul has a positive outlook, the road is long and the days will be tough for everyone; specially as the medical expenses continue to grow. Emily will continue to balance work with responsibilities at home; all the while going to treatment with Paul. Paul has but one job and that is to beat Cancer. OUR JOB is to provide any kind of relief for this great family.

I know with all certainty the Ryan family will appreciate any support you can offer.  Whether it's a frequent text, a supportive phone call, an occasional visit or a generous donation; it will truly help and go a long way.

I want to personally thank you for taking the time to read this post and keeping the Ryan family in your thoughts and prayers.
