UWC Chile tiene el honor de nominar a Sofía Vega, una joven de Viña del Mar apasionada por la educación, para ir a United World College of East Africa (UWCEA) en Tanzania y terminar su enseñanza media.

Sofía es una de las postulantes más resilientes que hemos conocido. Solo supimos que había sido una de las víctimas de los incendios de Viña del Mar luego de que su madre nos lo confió (y con pesar, porque Sofía le había pedido encarecidamente que no nos dijera nada). Llegó dos semanas después de perderlo todo a las llamas, con lo puesto, pero con una energía positiva y una entrega dignas de una campeona.

Sofía destacó como la mejor postulante de su generación; su inteligencia, su desenvoltura, y su empatía se ganaron el respeto y cariño de todos sus semejantes, y siempre destacó como una líder positiva en el grupo.

Por su curiosidad, valentía y sentido de la aventura, decidimos que nominarla a UWCEA en Tanzania sería el mejor complemento para su desarrollo personal y académico.

No nos sorprendió que recibiera el 100% de la cobertura de su beca, dado su mérito y su circunstancias actuales, pero todavía no salimos de la incertidumbre. Sofía y su familia todavía deben pagar los pasajes de avión a Tanzania.

UWC Chile has the honor to nominate Sofía Vega, a young woman from Viña del Mar who is passionate about education, to go to the United World College of East Africa (UWCEA) in Tanzania and finish her secondary education.

Sofía is one of the most resilient applicants we have had. During the selection weekend we learned that she was one of the victims of the fires in Viña del Mar. Her mother told us (even though Sofía had asked her not to say anything) because she was worried that this tragedy could negatively affect her selection weekend. Even though that happened, she came to us with such a positive energy and awesome attitude.

Sofía stood out as the best postulant of her generation; her intelligence, her ease, and her empathy earned the respect and kindness of all her friends as she always stood out as a positive leader in the group.

Because of her curiosity and sense of adventure, we decided to nominate her to UWCEA in Tanzania. We believe this is the best place for her for both her personal and academic development.

We were not surprised that she would receive 100% of the tuition covered given her merits and current circumstances, but we are still not certain she could attend this school due to how expensive the flight tickets from Santiago to Kilimanjaro are.
