Otis needs us... Please help.

Otis needs our help. We have just learned that his cataracts are detached and he possibly has glaucoma. He needs a specialist urgently. Estimates are at $6000.00. Matt and I can not help him without your help, as you all know I was laid off work. We are heartbroken. Otis has done so much for so many people and organizations.... he is our mascot at PUP, and was the ambassador for our last group traveling all over the tri state raising awareness to their cause. From bringing awareness and a lovable face to animal welfare issues; to visiting sick children and seniors, Otis has been a beacon of hope... We will not let him down. We can't. It's Otis.

If you do not know Otis, he was saved from a horrible place in August 2011. The shelter he was in kept him in a crate that was too small, he could not turn around or stand up. His tail was broken from being used to pull him out since he was unable to turn around. His vocal cords were swollen from crying all the time and a botched de-vocalization attempt. His feet were swollen the size of baseballs from being stuck in his own waste all day. He was covered in sores and when we washed him, his hair fell off since it was only held on by feces and scabs. It hurt him when you touched him, his skin was inflamed and infected.

Sometimes people rescue animals with the best intentions, but get overwhelmed. Such was the case with the place that had Otis. They were in over their head. They are now run by another group and all the animals are safe. Otis lived in hell from April until August of 2011 when we were made aware of his situation. As soon as we got the call we jumped in to action and got him to safety. Northeast Boston Terrier rescue jumped in to assist with his bills. The other cats and dogs there were all smaller, this place was not set up for a big boy like Otis... and didn't seem to know where to go for help, or didn't want to.

Otis was surrendered to this shelter because of BSL legislation at the building his family lived at. The thought he would be cared for at this place... they were wrong...
He was only 11 pounds, now he is 28! No wonder he did not fit in that cat carrier!

His sores are all healed, his fur has all grown back, and he is a welcome addition to the Festa family! The only permanent damage he has is his voice, it's a bit raspy.... but he loves to talk and can say hello! (or something that sounds like it) He always needs to be around people, or he will chew at his feet and scratch his ears, he's afraid of being alone.  He enjoys entertaining everyone at events and at nursing homes and loves everyone.

Please help us get his eyes fixed so he can get back to doing what he loves most... he is so frustrated. We want him to be his happy self again.

All Our Love,
The Festa's
