Salinas Family Flood Victim Help

Donation protected
This is the Starfish on the Beach story (https://eventsforchange.wordpress.com/2011/06/05/the-starfish-story-one-step-towards-changing-the-world) in real life and affecting real people.  Hurricane Harvey was a huge disaster to millions of people and most emergancy money flows from big government and big charities.  Bless you for your dollars given to those big charities.  But my friend Oscar Gomez (many of you know Oscar as he has done lots of painting and light carpentry work for you).  Oscar is a faithful Christian and his church is working with a church in Houston.  He came to me with the story of one family and one mission.  They can't do a lot, but like the startfish, it sure matters that they are doing it for the Salinas family.

The quick version is this.  Oscar wants to leave Roswell next week with a truck full of supplies (sheet rock, paint, wood, etc.) and help this war veteran restore his badly damaged home.   It is a drop in the bucket.  But it is a drop that has a name and a story.  I'm going to start filling that truck and invite you to drop $25 of whatever is possible in the kitty to help give this man what he needs to get the job done.

Oscar and the church may move on to other members of their sister church that are hurting as time and money permits.  But for now, he wants to make his mark with the Salines family.  So you can read more, or you can just trust that this is a very worthy endeavor and that I'm asking my friends to join me in a small investment with Oscar and trust it will be put to direct and immediate use with a family that lost everything.

THE SALINES Story:   Moises Salines has 12 children (yes, there was more than one wife involved).  Most are in Mexico.  He is a Vietnam vet and suffers from the affects of agent orange.  Moises and his wife Maria (who sufferes from a rare disease I can't pronouce) had fully paid for their small home, but they had no flood insurance. This, to top it off, Moises had a stroke eight months ago.  The hurricane caused severe damage to the house and took out the car.  Insurance will cover the car, but he house needs help.  The church sent me a much longer version of this story along with pictures of the sofas in the driveway and the mess in the basement.

It makes me feel good to help Oscar and I'm hoping that in addition to your big contribution to Salvation Army or Red Cross, you might save back a piece for small direct ways to help like this one.
