A wedding on the top of the world!

Dear Family and Friends!

Luke and I are proud to announce that we are FINALLY getting married! I know for a few of you it's been a bit confusing as to what our plans were or if we were ever going to get married. Well you no longer have to question because we have finally chosen the path that is right for us.

So after MUCH consideration, and with blessings from our parents, we have both decided to NOT follow family traditions. Instead we have chosen to do something completely different!  We are going to follow our very adventurous hearts ALL the way to Katmandu, Nepal for what we feel will be the GRANDEST wedding adventure of a lifetime!

I know some might think that this is totally crazy, but to us... we think it would be totally crazy NOT to go, ESPECIALLY before the rest of life catches up with us and we decide to start a family.

Our grand plan is to trek, for 17 days with guides from Nepal Spirit Adventure, all the way up to see Mt. Everest  and then onward to summit Island Peak, aka Imja Tse, which sits at a whopping 20,305ft! It is there at the top where we will exchange our vows and rings, right there on top of the world, well... as close we as we can get at least!

For those of you who knows us well, you already know that this amazing challenge is right up our alley, but in case anyone is not up to speed...

- Luke. The quiet one. Stoic at its finest. He has the heart of a lion, and the mind of a velociraptor. A brave and humble soldier who has dedicated over 10 years of his life to the US ARMY and is still going strong!

- Sophie. The talkative one. Silliness at its finest. She has the heart of a child, and the mind of a coffee drip. A perseverant and unpredictable US ARMY veteran who proudly served her country for 6 years.

We are both high spirited people with adventure and excitement shaping the very walls of our hearts. We love a challenge, and especially seeing how far we can take ourselves!

We met and became good friends nine years ago when we were stationed at Fort Stewart, GA, the home of the Dog Faced Soldier! We remained good friends for four years, and after a while we decided to take a big risk on our friendship by dating. However, the odds ended up in our favor! We have been together for 5 years now and are finally ready to take the next big step in our lives together! We can't sit here and say it's been an easy road for us either... at the very beginning of our relationship we hit a BIG wall, one where most new boyfriends would hit the road because they know they're in over their heads. We hope that you all can support our decision to elope instead of doing things the traditional way. So we figured that if we weren't going to go the traditional route than we could at least still make our special day just as memorable if not more! We just believe that a couple's story should be what they choose to make of it, and we feel that we have without a doubt chosen the most kick-ass way to express who we are as a couple and we want to shout it from a mountain top! (Not literally going to shout though, as that would be very dangerous for us and any other climbers and trekkers in the area)

I'm sure some of you can already figure out that this is going to be a pretty expensive trip. What with flights, trekking guides, climbing gear, and of course places to sleep along the route, but this is also going to be our honeymoon all tied up in one!

I'm sure most of you are wondering what I'm getting at by now... well if you think about the cost of a wedding, the reception, plus the honeymoon (not to mention the venue, tux, the dresses, a photographer, DJ, food, drinks, and whatever amount a guest would normally spend going to a wedding like the travelling, and hotel) we did the math and realized that we are surprisingly going the 'cheap' route with this big adventure! Sounds crazy right?! That's what we said when we saw the numbers...

So in leiu of a gift registry we have created this opportunity for our family and friends to assist us on our journey. We have 3 months to go before we embark on the grandest wedding adventure ever, so every little bit helps!

To those of you who have taken the time to read this far, we thank you! With much love, and appreciation to all of you, we are very excited to make our mark on the world together along this journey we call LIFE!

-Luke & Sophie

P.S. -  Please note that at the end of this awesome trip Sophie will be contacting all those who have been so incredibly kind and pitched in by asking for your personal mailing address. We say this not to be a couple of creepers, but because along their very long journey, Sophie will be collecting tiny treasures to send each and every one of you who have been so open minded and kind hearted enough to help send us on our dream wedding adventure! After all, we feel that it's the least that we can do for all your awesome support!
