Olivia Vs. Leukemia

“ Family support is the biggest love on earth”

(( from Jenn Story))

On Saturday July 11th, our world was turned upside down when our sweet 7yr old, Olivia was not feeling well. She had an on and off low grade fever and at times was very fatigue. We immediately took her to urgent care. After a quick blood draw, the doctor gave me a concerned look, Olivia was admitted immediately. Numerous blood draws and handful of tests the results were in.

On Monday July 13th, we received some news we were not expecting. Our sweet Olivia was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).

What is Leukemia? Leukemia is a cancer of the blood-forming cells that are produced in the bone marrow. Bone marrow is found in the center of bones and serves as a blood making factory. Three types of blood cells are made in the bone marrow. Red blood cells carry oxygen to the body. White blood cells fight infection. Platelets help stop bleeding.

What is Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)? Cancer involving the blood-forming cells that normally make a type of white blood cell called a lymphocyte. ALL starts when a single young blood-forming cells called lymphoblast develops a series of mistakes that transforms it into leukemia cell. The leukemia cell multiplies uncontrollably crowding-out healthy cells in the bone marrow. The leukemia cells can also spill out into the bloodstream and spread lymph nodes, spleen, liver and other organs. Leukemia cells can also spread to the spinal fluid. ALL is the most common type of pediatric cancer,  thanks to the amazing advancement in medicine and medical practices, most of those children (above 90%) make a full recovery and live a healthy life. No matter how high the success rates, it is a terrifying experience to learn that our child has been diagnosed with this disease and heartbreaking that our Olivia must undergo intense chemo treatments to be cured.

During the next few years (3 year treatment plan) there are going to be many hospital visits/overnight stays. With uncertain times with COVID-19, the unknown medical bills and Olivia’s snack attacks  many have asked how they could help. Positive thoughts, prayers and energy are of the utmost importance, needed and so appreciated. We want to have this time to focus on the treatment, healing and recovery of our brave Olivia.

We truly believe Olivia is going to crush it! She has shown so many signs of strength and positivity thru all that she has been thru so far. She is a fighter and we know she is going to beat it.

Thank you for your support and love.
