Hey everyone! This is Mr. Oliver James. He was born 08/04/2014

@ 5lbs 13oz, and 19inchs!

He came into our world a little sooner then he should have, and needs a little extra help. He is currently in stage 3 NICU(Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, St. Cloud, MN) Droplet isolation for a minimum of 14 days. He was born with a rare infection called Haemophilus influenza B. It has gone sepsis (which means it's an entire bloodstream infection and possibly in his spinal cord) It also requires longer treatment with stronger antibiotics. He also has a ventilator directly placed into his lungs to assist his breathing since he isn't able to breathe on his own. We are hoping to be able to take him off life support in the next day or two and have him breathe on his own. He is struggling a little bit with his oxygen levels as well as maintaining body temperature. He is starting to make progress on his road to recovery, but it will be a journey. He is unable to digest food right now, even with his feeding tube, and has to rely on his IV for nutrients. Due to this he will require extra care and time both in the NICU and at home. Since we will need to give him care for a longer amount of time, and also air purifiers and accommodations at home, it will require my fiancé and myself to take more time away from work. At the moment we are able to take the time off of work, but it will be mostly unpaid. I do have to say my job has been nothing but AMAZING working with me through scheduling and truly letting me put my family first. We do have health insurance and are hoping it will cover a majority of this, but unsure of how much it will be, and the cost of aftercare.

We are asking for some help so we can provide the best care and ability to stay home and give him the care and attention he needs.

The amazing news is that he is slowly but surely on the road to recovery, and is making headway! Hopefully in the next week or so I will be able to hold my beautiful son for the first time.
