Donation protected
Most Friends and Family know about Nickolas, just incase here is the short version.
Nickolas January was diagnosed with PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified) or more commonly known as ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and Childhood Apraxia of Speech when he was 2 1/2 years old. He is currently 6 years old and non-verbal. He uses a PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) book that is filled with 1inch picture icons to communicate. His book grows as he learns to associate and discriminate new pictures to real life things. He currently has 273 icons and growing. As you can imagin this tangable book is a temporary solution for Nickolas communication needs. Since advancements in personal multi-media devices, programming companies have stepped up and created software and applications for individuals with special needs. The ipad paired with a software program called Proloque2go will be a digital PECS book and also give Nickolas a \"vocal\" voice. The ipads touch screen interface is what makes all the difference for special needs individuals.
Ben and I are asking family, friends and anyone who would like, to make donations toward purchasing an ipad, warranty/insurance package, and software for Nickolas. You can visit the apple website to view the ipad, and also visit www.Proloquo2go.com for a software demonstration. Thank you to everyone for helping us give Nickolas this wonderful gift of independence and social growth.
Sincerely,
Carrie and Ben January
