Help Children Get a Better Future

My name is Xuan Tran and I came from Vietnam. I have lived in Sweden for 30 years. I am a pharmacist and work in the pharmacy of Skånes University Hospital, Malmoe Sweden. I also worked as an interpreter for a project of “a new smile, a new life” in Vietnam in March 2017.
Having a child with malformation is a shame in Vietnam. Those children are hidden at home, particularly some are 8 years old but have not gone to school yet. They are often children from families that live extremely poorly in mountain towns. The families grow vegetables and make a living by selling them in local markets. Many parents do not have money to send their children to the hospital for operations. They need help with both transportation and food when the children are in the hospital.
The team I worked with includes personnel from Plastic Surgery Department, Skånes University Hospital, Malmoe Sweden. In March, we were in Uong Bi, Quang Ninh (North of Vietnam) for a week. There were 59 children born with lip-and cleft palate that came to Uong Bi Hospital. We could not operate all of the children because some were sick with pneumonia, etc. We will return to Uong Bi in October to operate for those children that have not been operated last time. Moreover, we are also working with training programs for medical staff and patients’ parents.
My mission aims at raising money for the tickets for three Vietnamese doctors to come to Sweden to learn about advanced surgery. They are young and lack of working experience.
We hope that we can also help the hospital with more essential materials for operation.
