In my final year of university I suffered debilitating intestinal pain. I was vomiting twice a day and barely sleeping more than 3 hours a night. I lost 4 stone in the first half of 2019.  It turns out I had been suffering from Crohn's disease. I still graduated with my degree though.

Unfortunately because I refused to see a doctor during my time at university the Crohn's had irreversibly damaged my small intestine.  This resulted in a near death experience in June 2019 when I needed emergency surgery to remove a portion of my intestines. To allow my intestines to heal and avoid unnecessary pain I was given an ileostomy.

An ileostomy guides the small intestine to the exterior through a hole the stomach wall. This obviously limits my ability to do certain physical activities. Apart from the physical aspect of an ileostomy, there is a significant mental component which affects my confidence and limits self-esteem. Fortunately the Ileostomy is reversible. I was told the reversal procedure would happen early in 2020. This looks unlikely as I have been told there is a 6 month waiting list for the surgery.

Since graduation in July 2019, I have been living in limbo accepting part-time and temporary work in the belief that I will be having a reversal operation in early 2020. Now that this period of limbo has indefinitely been extended I feel as if I have no option but to seek private treatment.
