Natalie Brown - Steel Coyote

Natalie Brown is a talented artist, kind friend and very unique soul.  She would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it!  She also carries with her the burden of past trauma and suffers from PTSD…so you may also know Lukas, her service dog.

Two days ago Nat was showing a newcomer to our area some of the sights in Port Angeles.  At some point in their travels a conversation with someone triggered a flashback and blackout for Nat.  Nat could converse but she was no longer “there”.  So her friend took her car keys with the intention of driving her home.  Unfortunately he was not very skilled at driving a stick and ended up driving off the road after leaving Port Angeles, hitting a boulder and rolling/flipping her truck.  Nat’s beloved truck now looks more like a pancake!

Although the driver was able to crawl out the driver’s window, he was unable to free Nat.  And he was concerned because there was smoke.  So he quickly unleashed Nat’s 2 dogs (Lukas and Sasha) who had endured all this while tied in the bed of the pickup!  Police, medics and firetrucks quickly arrived and cut Nat out through the front window.

Nat only came to her normal senses after I arrived on the scene.  The police had called me and asked me to come get her and told me she was lucky to be alive!  And after a checkup at the hospital, fortunately nothing is broken or damaged…except for severe and extreme muscle pain.  She is in constant pain and was told it will probably take about a month before she feels better.  She cannot walk without pain.  She cannot reach or bend down to feed her dogs without pain.  And the dogs!  Her dogs too seem ok…with nothing broken or severely damaged.  Thank God!

But her truck is a loss.  Nat had just put $1600 worth of repairs into it and had not yet even written the check for those repairs.  And she had no collision insurance on it…so all is a loss.  Plus, it is highly unlikely she will be able to go to her next show in November (Best of the NW) , one of her favorite and best shows.

Self-employed artists, whatever their specific field or previous level of financial success, cannot collect unemployment benefits.  They can become very vulnerable financially when a crisis or disaster hits.  Right now Nat is depressed, in pain and is unable to see how to move forward.  Since both of us had contributed to a GoFundMe account a couple of years ago for another fellow artist, I thought I would do this for her.  Would you be willing to help Nat out?  The funds raised will help Natalie get through this difficult time financially until she can get back to work and then begin searching for a new vehicle!

Please share with all your friends. Thank you. Kathy Brown (her mother and art business assistant)
