Getting to Nana’s Funeral

Donation protected
This is the hardest thing for me to write. I lost my grandfather and my aunt within a few weeks of each other in November 2020. As you can imagine, it was financially difficult. Now I have to say goodbye to my grandmother, who passed away last night (February 16, 2021).

My mother and I plan on heading to San Antonio as soon as we can to assist with planning her funeral and saying our final goodbyes. As a fulltime student and home health aide, it is not hard to imagine how difficult it is to get there financially. That is why I need your help.  If we were to leave right now, we would be sleeping in a car for the next two weeks.

All money donated will go towards:
• Room and Board  for 2 weeks
• Funeral Expenses
• Food Costs
• Gas
• Any unexpected costs

I hope that I can be there for my family and help financially in any way possible. Any donation you give, whether it's $1 or $100 is greatly appreciated!!! May you be surrounded by love and peace.

F.A.Q.

1. Why weren’t you prepared for this?
I wasn’t prepared because of the fact that I had to re-arrange my bills in order to prepare for two funerals in the span of a month. By the time that I got caught up with my bills and started to save, my grandmother passed away. You see, I was buying school supplies as well as preparing for my grandfather’s funeral. Two weeks later, I had to make a trip to San Antonio to say goodbye to my aunt. She was in the hospital at the time. She died the next day after we got there so we had to make another trip down for the funeral because I wouldn’t have my paycheck if we stayed for a week.

2. What is Room and Board?
Well, Room and Board will be the AirBnB that we rent for the funeral. Since my mother is at high risk of getting COVID-19, it is safer. Her COPD prevents her from being able to wear a mask without having difficulty breathing. I would much rather prefer to keep her as safe as possible.

3. Why $800?
I know that staying in an AirBnB is expensive but I also understand that people have a lot going on with COVID-19 running around and doing it’s damage. To be completely honest, it already feels selfish asking for help when so many others are suffering as well. That’s why the goal is low. I would much rather make it work with $800 instead of asking for $1,000 or $2,000 or even $5,000. As much as I would love to hit the goal, I want people to be able to take care of their families too.

4. Why can’t your mother help?
My mom is disabled. She has COPD, degenerating disks in her spine, depression, anxiety, and other mental illnesses. This makes it extremely hard for her to get around and do a lot. I take care of her 24/7 but I only get paid for 28 hours a week. When you add that up, it’s not much. Add on paying bills and it’s easy to see why it’s so difficult to save money.
