It\'s not easy for me to write this, but unfortunately I\'m afraid
I don\'t have any other choice. My name is Elina. I am 22
years old. I live in Buffalo Grove, IL with my family. I was born in Samara, Russia. I was an absolutely healthy little girl when I was born. I left Russia
when I was only 5 years old, because we started to notice frightening
changes in my health and my mom wanted me to have a better life and
future. But sadly it really isn\'t happening. I was diagnosed with a form
of Muscular Dystrophy which I know very little to nothing about except for the obvious.
It has been weakening my body and making my life extra difficult to live. It only seems to be getting worse instead of better. I feel like I lose more and more strength each day. Even though not as well as I should have I used to be able to walk and do so many things I am now unable to do. I completely lost strength in my legs when I was 11 years old. I have to get by in a wheel chair. I can do very little on my own now. I depend on somebody everyday of my life whether I want to drink, eat, get dressed, brush my hair, etc.
Hope is what keeps me going, and pushes me forward. Hope that a cure or at least some kind of treatment to improve my condition and quality of life will be found. There is nothing that conventional medicine can help me with. Every doctor I\'ve been to says there\'s nothing they can do. It shoots my hopes down. There are so many things I want to accomplish in life but how can it be done when your strength is taken away from you and there\'s not much you can do about it? I don\'t want this terrible disease to destroy and prevent me from living my life.
There is only one treatment I heard of that may be able to help. There\'s no guarantee that I will get up and walk but it should give my body back some of it\'s muscle and give me strength. It would make a big difference in my health. Muscle weakness causes most if not all of my health problems.
