Hey everyone, I'd like to tell you about Aliyah. She was recently diagnosed with leukemia, and is undergoing chemo treatments at the IWK in Halifax. She has the greatest little heart ever, and is the strongest little girl I know! She grew up with her family in Central America as a missionary to the Garifuna people.(Stephen Somers is her father) She is in Grade 4 right now, and lo
ves to play basketball! As is common with chemotherapy, Aliyah is going to start losing her hair pretty soon. She's hooked up to IV's, has needles in her, and is constantly bruising from the lack of healthy blood cells.
This year, a group of men are doing Movember for Aliyah, and will be raising money for her chemo treatments, medications, and family costs. It is predicted that the additional cost to the family will be $600-1200 each month for meds, along with lifestyle adjustments, regular trips to hospitals, travel, etc. It is a very big financial problem.
Instead of raising money for Prostate Cancer (which is very important) we are focusing on helping out a girl who needs us.
BUT beyond the obvious need for money, Aliyah needs prayer and loves to hear about people who are praying for her! She would be so happy to see hundreds of real men growing moustaches and praying daily for her. This isn't just a fundraiser, its a way for us to show Aliyah that we are here for her (even if we don't know her). She loves hearing about people who are praying for her, who don't even know her!
