My name is Monique, I live in Providence, Rhode Island and am a mother of two amazing children.
For the last few years, I have been battling an uncurable, rare blood disease known as Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS), which is an extremely rare, life-threatening, progressive disease. I was born with one kidney and the disease has fully attacked my kidney.
As a result, my kidney has failed and I currently undergoe dialysis 3 days a week for four hours per treatment and receive chemotherapy at a local cancer center, while working and being a mother of two.
I was in need of a kidney transplant, and god blessed me with a donor who is a young single mom of a 3-year-old and is currently attending nursing school and working full-time. We just completed our major surgery in November 2017.
This surgery requires us each of us to be out of work for several months for a full recovery and we need support on both ends. We are asking for donations that will go towards expenses during our recoveries, for example childcare, housing costs, caretaker costs, etc. As this is a major surgery, it is important that we take our time healing.
This is a selfless act on behalf of my donor and she had to go through a very detailed process in order to ensure she was a match. She is willing to take a risk to give me a second chance at life with my children. My recovery will not be quick or easy due to the blood disease I have for life. No donation is too big or too small, we are grateful and appreciative for anything you can offer to help us get through our recovery.
