Model UN Field Trip to NYC

Students from the Family Partnership Charter Morro Bay Montessori and San Luis Obispo Vicente Learning Centers have the opportunity to attend the Montessori Model United Nations Conference in New York!  https://montessori-mun.org/conference/mmun-new-york-city-conference/

WHAT: MMUN students formulate, present, debate, and revise positions on current issues that are affecting people of the world.  By assuming the perspectives of a citizen of their selected countries, MMUN students not only develop an understanding of the needs and rights of others, but also learn to respect the cultures, the political views, and the belief system of others.

Taking on their ambassadorial roles in a Model UN simulation, students research the issue that their UN committees will address. Model UN participants learn how the international community acts on its concerns about topics including peace and security, human rights, the rights of the child, child labor, the environment, food and hunger, economic development and globalization. 

Model UN delegates also look closely at the needs, goals and foreign policies of the countries they will represent at the event. The insights they gain from their exploration of history, geography, culture, economics and science contribute to the authenticity of the simulation.

WHEN: February 21st – 24th, 2018

HOW MUCH:  For 16 students and their two amazing teachers to attend this conference it will cost $9520. Airfare is an additional $9900. Volunteer parent chaperones will be required to register for the conference and secure funds for flights as well. This will cost them each an additional $1000 for a total of $15000.

WHY: The Future Begins NOW!
This is an amazing opportunity for these small town kids to be immersed in the global community. This is a hands on learning experince that could have positive global effects. However, without the financial support of our greater community it will not be possible. Every little bit will add up and help this group of 4th-8th grade UN deligates get to NY.
