Mission Trip to Nairobi, Kenya

Donation protected

Hello all!

I'd like to start by saying that this is not typical of me. Though I've gotten better through the love and acceptance I've found in Christian community, asking for help in any capacity still continues to be one of my greatest weak spots. But the reason behind my request is so much bigger than myself, so I'm letting go of my pride and letting God work.

I have been overwhelmingly blessed with the opportunity to travel to Kenya from June 28th to July 10th with a team from my church to work with an incredible organization called Missions of Hope (www.mohiafrica.org ). But I can't do this alone. So with complete humility, I am asking for help financially and with prayer.

Missions of Hope is based out of Nairobi, in the Mathare Valley slum where there are approximately 600,000 people living in three square miles of land. They lack the basic necessities of life that most of us take for granted, such as sufficient housing, clean water, and sanitation services. Educational opportunities are minimal, and very few jobs are available to assist families in improving their lives. For our trip we will be a support team for Missions of Hope. One of their main goals is to give the children of Mathare an education, meals, medical care, and biblical training. Through the education of the children they are able to go into the community, identify any needs, and bring long term solutions to them.

This trip has been a mind-blowing answer to prayer, as I've felt called to reach out to people in the midst of suffering and hardship in other countries for quite a few years. I've always viewed my heart as one that breaks far too easily, but this past year God has supplemented that with a fierce amount of determination to spread His love and affect change. I see now that my fault line-heavy heart isn't a weakness, it's His compass. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

I am so so happy that I am able to share this part of my journey of faith and trust. In just two years my life has shot down a path I never could have planned for, and I am so thankful to our great King for never once letting me go. Saying that I am more than ready to give back is an understatement.

I ask for prayer for group continuity, safe travels, and for God's love to be magnified through us. Also, if you could please pray for this small town girl's heart and strength as I embark on the biggest adventure I've ever been given. I'm a little scared, to be honest, but I've also never been more excited, and that trumps fear every time.

If you feel led to financially support me as well, I thank you from the bottom of my heart! Any amount would be incredibly appreciated, as the overall cost of this trip will be around $3,400-$3,500 per person, and is needed by March 1, 2014.

Also, if you would rather just send a check, feel free to e-mail me using the link at the top of this page near my photo and I'll send you my address!
