(The short version)
Im building a greenhouse in the heart of St Louis city to provide fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs to our community at little to no cost. I want us to have EASY and AFFORDABLE access to QUALITY healthy foods. The total cost is 40K and I am raising money in Phases.  This is Phase I: Goal 6,000.00

(The long version)
Milele was inspired to include, promote and teach about holistic health and self maintenance in her books after reading  “For the Sake of All: A Report on the Health and Well-Being of African Americans in St. Louis,” and receiving feedback from readers about difficulties they have had in their personal journeys with health and wellness.

The study she read highlighted how health disparities are caused by many different factors but the ones that stuck out to her were access to resources like healthy foods & the impacts of “Food Deserts”.  According to the report experts found that “poverty and health are inextricably intertwined.” The research shows that those living in extreme poverty with little to no access to healthy foods have more chronic illness, frequent and severe disease complications, and greater demands on the health care system.   “The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) defines food deserts as “urban neighborhoods and rural towns without ready access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food. Food deserts often affect low-income individuals more because they often do not have reliable transportation to shop outside of their neighborhoods. This leaves them at the mercy of the unhealthy offerings found in convenience stores and fast food outlets within their neighborhoods.” ~ Department of Health “Food Deserts in St. Louis”

With this in mind Milele continually intertwines gardening, cleansing, fasting, dancing, yoga, living in harmony with nature and total body wellness within her stories, poems, “Sage Wisdoms” and speaking engagements.  She also wanted to provide tangible solutions to the health disparities and food desert beyond her books since many readers expressed that they wanted to “do better” but either did not know how, didn’t have the time to go far away from home for what they needed or could not afford to get the products they desired.

As a result Milele is building a four-season greenhouse in the heart of St. Louis which she will use to produce foods, essential oils, teas, herbal infusion and remedies for her community and all who are in need at little to no cost. She intends to provide fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs to the community and motivate others to learn to grow, eat and use more edible plants as well as work cooperatively with others in food sharing and provide classes to local schools and community organizations.  Milele understand the gravity of this endeavor and will partner with local schools, community organizations and small businesses to maximize the impact of the greenhouse.

She envisions readers and the surrounding community being able to use what is produced from the green house for “Sage Wisdoms” such as: Cleansing your Temple; Herbal Teas and Infusions; Essential Oils and Healing baths.  She also plans to create a product line based on readers needs and what is produced in the greenhouse to expand her impact past  St. Louis.

Milele would like your support in raising $40,000.00 to  start this venture as well as continued support in any and all ways.  She already has a plot of land and is working with a local developer to provide their expertise and hopes to expand to other locations across St. Louis City and eventually globally.
