The journey to medical school has been long and arduous but through it my passion to become a doctor has grown immensely. What seemed a dream is now soon to become a reality. Many thought that a boy raised in the projects of East Los Angeles was never getting into medical school. I had the odds stacked against me. I am the eldest male out of seven siblings, raised in a single parent household who counted on governmental assistance to survive. Drugs, gangs and violence constantly surrounded me in my community. However, with much prayer and perseverance I continued to remain driven and worked many jobs to support my family. I graduated from Garfield High School in 2007 and earned a Bachelor’s from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2011. Soon after completing my undergraduate education, I married my high school sweetheart and we have two children named Matthew (5) and Addie (2). Throughout all the trials and tribulation, I always held on to my dream tight and close to my heart, believing I have a calling to become a healer and serve the community where I grew up.
I will be attending Western University of Health Sciences to pursue Podiatry medicine. As a Podiatrist, I will be trained to provide treatment that emcompasses diabetic foot care and lower extremity amputation prevention. I hope to return to my community and inspire others to reach above and beyond!
Your generous contributions will help cover the cost of tuition and educational expenses.
