Surprising us all, Madeline Skye was born with a very rare genetic disorder called Glutaric Aciduria (GA-1). We couldn't believe it.
After extensive research, we found the Clinic for Special Children. This small team of physicians, nurses, researchers, and child advocates work tirelessly to treat children with GA-1 and other rare diseases in their non-profit post-and-beam style building raised largely by volunteers from the Plain community. These amazing people have been treating Maddie since she was 10 days old.
The Clinic for Special Children is a medical home for vulnerable children like our Madeline. Their unflagging dedication to diagnosing and treating other children with rare genetic disorders is unprecedented and like nothing we have ever seen.
The Clinic is funded primarily by donations, auctions, and collaborative funding. Instead of birthday gifts for Madeline's 1st birthday, we are hoping to raise money to give directly to the Clinic for Special Children. Every dollar raised will go directly to the Clinic, where they will continue to provide affordable and powerful care to genetically compromised patients like our Madeline Skye Volpe.
