True North of Columbia is the only safe emergency shelter and advocacy services program for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Boone County, Missouri.
Since its inception, True North has constantly worked to meet the needs of victims of domestic violence or sexual assault in our community.
Dollars received directly benefit victims of domestic and sexual violence and their children. With your support we can continue to provide services to victims that provide a framework for their recovery from trauma -- tools they will need to rebuild healthy, independent, and safe lives.
The agency provides a safe, emergency shelter offered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to victims who are fleeing abusive situations, and also provides a variety of advocacy services, individual counseling, and support groups for victims regardless of whether they are residing in the shelter or not.
Today, we are seeking your financial support as part of our campaign to involve men in preventing violence and advocating for victims...Why? Because although domestic and sexual violence are still largely crimes perpetrated by men, not all men abuse. In fact, only 1 in 12 men will become an abuser in his lifetime. However, it is up to other men to change the social discourse by becoming influential bystanders...bystanders who CAN hold other men accountable for their actions. This means that women do not have to shoulder the community's responsibility to end violence alone...they have Men As Allies.
