Homeless from Irma

Donation protected
Irma hit Lehigh Acres, and an unexpected amount of water ended up in our home. We live near Harns Marsh in between Lehigh Acres and Buckingham Florida. The land that our house is on is 20 feet above sea level, so we were not expecting something like this to happen.

It is not in a flood zone so as my husband and his brothers swam through the water to see what condition our home was in. He was shocked by the sight of our house in 10 feet of water and all of our belongings submerged. Thank God, that we took our important papers when our family evacuated. I was awaiting nervously as they took an hour swimming and walking through the snake and alligator-infested water. When my husbanded arrived at his parents were I waited he got out of the car with his head held low and swollen eyes. At that moment I knew it was not going to be good news. When he told me that our home was underwater, I was in disbelief. I clenched his shoulder and started to cry. We had worked so hard for everything that we had, and now overnight it was all gone. We were starting our third year as a homeowner. Our car, home, and belongings covered in stinky, murky water.

I am so thankful that my family and I were not in the home when the hurricane hit. We have a one-year-old and a seven-year-old. We are a younger family putting ourselves through college. We were just making ends meet. I homeschool our seven years old, and now he is without a school room or a home. He keeps asking when we will go home and I just don't have the heart to tell him that we are homeless. The reality will soon set in, and I will have to explain to him that temporarily we can't go home, but with help, we will rebuild our house again. All of our belongings including our means of transportation gone.

We had someone take us in and the money donated will be used for transportation, school supplies, mattress, bedding, diapers, wipes, crib, car seat, personal items, and day to day expenses. Even though our lives feel upside down, we are still trying to maintain a stable home away from home. We are seeking to get our life somewhat back together and create a little normalcy for our children. My husband continues to work. I will soon start homeschool Lucas once we receive his new school books and supplies.

Everything in our home can be replaced, and that is why we are asking for help. Please help my family, and I raise money to restore the home we once had.

Thank you for your support in this time of need,
Jorge, Lucas, Logan, and Melissa
