About 3 years ago, the River of Life Foundation (RLF) started an educational project in Wanding. Matthew K. Jiing Wanding Primary School, named after one of the earliest evangelists who enlighted residents of wanding, was more than just a preacher. Young Sarah Nyachan Bayak Tutlam then, became a beneficiary of his teaching and preaching, gaining qualities that will motivate her to open the road for the less fortunate in this area to realize their dreams. The school started with a few voluntary teachers inspired themselves, to end the overwhelming illiteracy rate, an unfortunate reality in a 21st century Wanding. An estimated 300-350 children attend the school during the rainy season and about 500-600 during the dry season. The pupils come from South Sudan and Ethiopia on both sides of River Phibor, this being a border residential area.
RLF Netherlands has been and continues to provide the school with stationery materials and other school paraphernalia. This support is made possible by well-wishers normally at the individual level as friends and family. It is therefore evident that there is inadequacy in terms of what we can offer in this much-needed life skill necessity. As the school grows, so are the needs in terms of structure and educational quality. For the mentioned reasons and more, RLF aims at raising at least 30.000 USD/EUR over the next 6 months, purposely for building 6 classrooms, 1 office, 1 child-friendly space, a store, and two (2) toilets for male and female. To enhance the quality of teaching delivery, the teachers will also be trained in relevant skills. This has been done before with tremendous results in Nairobi but insufficient funds prevented more to be done in this regard.
As we walk through the last 10 years of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), RLF hopes to bridge one of its vital goals-quality education for all. As a Christian based organization, we hope to emulate what the evangelist Matthew Koang Jiing and other missionaries did in their quest for sustainable, better lives for all through enlightenment.
