This is Masiah. He’s my sweet, imaginative 3-year old cousin. And he desperately needs your help.
After being diagnosed at age 2 with neuroblastoma, a cancer found in nerve cells, Masiah underwent aggressive treatments to fight his illness. Chemotherapy, one of the treatments, came with the dangerous risk of Masiah also getting leukemia.
His family’s worst fears were confirmed at his 6-month check up, when his results for leukemia came back positive. Now, this poor boy’s journey to fight one disease has left him needing to fight another one.
Masiah’s parents are heartbroken over his leukemia diagnosis. Their son is their only child, and they are desperate for him to receive the life-saving bone marrow transplant that could heal him.
In fact, Masiah’s only option right now is to find a bone marrow donor.
My cousin lives in a third world country. In order for him to receive the treatment he needs, his family will need to pack up their belongings and travel to Europe. The cost of dropping everything and staying in another country is tremendous. I am raising critical funds for Masiah’s family to be able to fly to Europe, stay in a hotel, and live for at least 40 days during their son’s extended hospital stay. The funds will also go to paying for the bone marrow transplant, along with any accompanying medical procedures required to help save this boy.

Prior to his cancer diagnosis, Masiah was an energetic, happy, adventurous 2 year-old boy. He loved to kick the ball around with his dad and cousins. He enjoyed building legos, playing with trains, and coloring.
One day while he was playing on the carpet, Masiah turned to his mom and complained about stomach pains. His parents gave him medicine, but the pain didn’t go away. After a couple of days, they took him to the doctor, who reassured the family that Masiah was experiencing minor constipation. When the pain continued to worsen, the parents insisted on additional tests, which confirmed that their sweet boy had neuroblastoma. This type of cancer occurs most often in infants and young children, and it develops from immature nerve cells found in several areas of the body. Masiah’s neuroblastoma had targeted his kidney, and thankfully, it was not yet at stage 3.
Devastated and scared, Masiah’s parents did everything in their power to save their son. Following his initial diagnosis, they supported him through a series of treatments including chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries. The family spent a year and half tirelessly going back and forth to the hospital, managing medical appointments, and even visiting the emergency room. One of the most serious side effects of chemotherapy is an increased risk of getting leukemia at a later time, but the family pushed onward, hoping Masiah would recover without receiving it.
At the end of the treatments, the process seemed successful. Masiah started to gain weight, and his hair started to grow back. He was full of energy and his appetite began to grow.
At the 6-month check up, however, his parents received another devastating blow. Their little boy, their only child, now has leukemia.
