Marc & April Maylor Cancer Fund

Where to start...I'm Dave Akers... Marc Maylor's buddy.  I'm using my wife's FaceBook to share this story and ask for your help. Marc is on the left in the 'I Give to America' t-shirt. And he has...given to America. Can you help us give back to him in this crisis?

Why am I asking you to help this family? Well, neither of them would ever ask for help...but they are usually the ones giving it.  Marc has served our country, never asking for vet benefits because he had insurance available on his job...and these bad things happened too fast to get vet benefits started, and way too serious to wait. Marc has spent his life in public service, starting with the U.S. Air Force.  His career after military, has been in LEO, and many will know him at his current job in Security at Duke Energy. His wife is a nurse at Piedmont Hospital.  Marc & April have been married over 20 years and raised their own two girls, now in college, as well as swooped in to save two brothers out-of-state who were headed to foster care a few years ago,  The boys were their great-newphews by blood; now their children by heart.  They adopted them to keep them safe and together. So that makes 4 kids to bring up. This is one of many examples of how selfless they are and how they always do everything they can to help.  They also took in Marc's elderly mother-in-law, who although needed help, still wanted her independence. So they built her a tiny room attached to their home, so she could live 'alone,' while 6 feet away. They've had other family come and go for years, their doors and hearts always open. Never asking for anything back.We just found out that Marc learned after Thanksgiving that he has esophageal cancer that had also moved to the top of his stomach.  This all happened so fast starting with what he thought was a stomach ache. He has underwent surgery and has started radiation. He's on a feeding tube and hasn't eaten in a week.  It's serious, folks. Although we are some of their closest friends, they have been going through this alone and without asking for help, as is their nature. It's been kind of a big secret, not shared with many, but I guess I'm busting that secret wide open. Here's the deal:  Apparently, their insurance deducatble and co-pay is $10,000.00 annually, which they had to pay in Dec and now AGAIN in Jan since it's a new year....$20,000.00 total in 2 months.  Ouch.  I thought I would try to help by starting a campaign.  (Umm, surprise, Marc.)

Obviously he is off work on FMLA and his wife, April, an RN at Piedmont Medical has been off work too during this crisis. With no money coming in and lots going out, they've had to start selling stuff to pay bills, and she had to go back to work 2 days into a daily radiation treatment that's gonna happen for five weeks. The 20k has to come from somewhere and the regular bills don't stop, so back to work she goes. To raise/save money they have given away their beloved pets, 2 mini horses, and sold their camper.

His prognosis is not good at this point, but he is a fighter and we will stand with him and fight this battle with him, just as he did for our country.  PLEASE HELP US so we can assist this family with the deductibles and some to spare to cover their time off of work. ANY small donation will go a loooong way.  Thank you in advance!

Below is Mikey with Marc. He's the youngest of the brothers they adopted, and he loves his daddy (Marc), having never known another.  And there's his big brother, Brandon, who's now doing his best to be the man of the house while Marc is very ill.

Please Consider giving anything you can to help. Every dollar counts. Thank you.
