Who am I?
My name is Mai Hernon McEvilley, and I’m from a small but very cultural village of Gurteen, Co Sligo in the North West of Ireland where I lived most of my life.
I grew up with traditional singing, dancing, and music. It was part of everyday life in our village.
About 5 years ago I made the big decision to take a leap of faith and move to Kentucky USA to get married.
Though very scary at the time, that move has helped me “bring it all back home” in ways that I had not ever imagined.
I want to create a documentary about the difficulties of emigration from my homeland, and how I was able to turn it all around---by creating a tour company to bring people back to the Ireland I know and love!
Our documentary will showcase the local Ireland with its traditions, Culture, history, spectacular scenery, and of course its people. Though a number of tour companies operate from the USA, not too many are Irish, and very few are part of the Irish culture. I want to highlight the great love American people express for Ireland.
Why am I doing this?
My hope is that this documentary show what sort of a process people go through when deciding to move to another country, but I also want to show how great America is if you want to succeed. The help I have recieved in setting up my music and travel business and I also hope that this documentary will lead to a travel series which will bring business back home to places forgotten by other tour companies, places often known only to the locals---rural family-run B&B’s, small country hotels, and manor houses. We even have a castle trip!
What are we spending the funds on?
The funds will cover the making of the documentary---
-travel expenses for myself and videographer, including airline tickets, car rental, accommodation, food.
-production and editing costs.
-musicians for live music, and video music.
When do we need the funds?
We have changed out timeline from Sept to July. So we need the funds by June 27th.
What will this documentary do?
So many people ask the question why I moved from Ireland to America, and they inevitable follow with their own wishes to visit Ireland. This documentary will tell this story, how the tour company came about, and it will give a taste of Ireland seen only through the eyes of a local.
Your help would not just be amazingly great for this documentary, but it would show Ireland to the world, and it would help my business to bring business back to the locals in Ireland. It will help people in rural Ireland with their businesses.
