Fleeing Abuse/Battling Parkinson’s

Hello and thank you for taking your time to hear my heart. THIS IS FOR MY MOM, Lynda. I hope you have a Mom as special as mine.  I know if you do you will understand my deep need to help her and applaud her courage. Perhaps you’ll find it worthwhile to give up just one "specialty coffee, or drive through meal" to share a blessing with someone deserving of a decent life, a little concern, dignity and comfort. These have been gone from her life for many years.

Since November my Mom has been living on our recliner because, with Parkinson's, she can't use the stairs, to use our room with a bed. My husband and I sleep in our travel trailer, when we can, to give her a little space of her own. She has always cared for others, and in her long nursing career has cared for thousands, maybe even someone you love.  She needs to be cared for now and is trying to make ends meet with her social security because her abusive husband of 30 years will not pay any support or help in any way. In fact he has, with great effort, stopped the sale of her home that would have given her the money she needed to begin again and this earnest request unnecessary. She has spent thousands in legal fees to remove him from her life and feel safe in this world again. We are only trying to raise enough money to get her into a nearby Assisted Living Facility, New West Haven.

This all began in 1987 when she married.  Shortly after, her family realized that she was being abused.  We tried to help her see it, but she couldn't (maybe you know someone that has been blinded, like that, by love).  She has tried to leave him a number of times but has had the door blocked, her phone taken away, her car jumped on, and even worse - threatened, verbally and physically. In 2007 the tremors began.  She was then diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and as the disease progressed and she aged,  leaving a horrible and abusive situation was harder because of her fear of being alone, old, and ill.  Even the daily life of abuse became less scary than the unknown. We have, as a family exhausted every financial possibility and resource but aren’t quite there.  We extend our heartfelt gratitude for any help you are able to provide, as we are only looking for enough funds for her to have a place of her own to feel like life is worth living again.  Whether it’s $5.00 or $5,000.00, or just a prayerful thought from your heart, we are filled with gratitude. We understand that times are tough and we truly appreciate your time and thoughtfulness and look forward to PAYING FORWARD your loving gifts.
