Luke's journey
Don protégé
Luke is 4 years old. He has Duchenne muscular dystrophy and Autism. He doesn't walk unaided and he doesn't talk.
Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a serious neuromuscular condition which causes progressive muscle weakness and there is no cure. The condition will effect all his muscles, including his heart and lungs and he may never gain the ability to walk. The condition is life limiting.
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability which effects the way Luke sees the world and the people in it. He struggles with communication and has no language. He finds social situations difficult and has significant learning difficulties.
Despite Luke's difficulties he is an amazing little boy and we're so proud of him and all he achieves. In order to aid Luke's development he needs many different therapies such as hydrotherapy to help his muscles. We are in the process of having adaptations which include a through floor lift, ceiling tracks for the hoist and a shower wet room to enable us to care for Luke now and in the future. Unfortunately this means that Luke will be unable to have a bath. Not only does Luke love the water, hydrotherapy is so good for his muscles. He needs a hot tub or a therapy bath which can be plumbed into his new shower wet room.
In creating this page we're hoping to not only raise funds but to also raise awareness of both Duchenne and Autism. We will keep you updated on his progress along the way...thank you so much for your support
