Rebuilding Fund

Of the 500k+ people experiencing homelessness in America on any given night, I have unfortunately been one of them for the past few months. Having your entire life thrown onto a pile of dirt is one of the most soul-crushing things that I’ve ever experienced. Since then, I’ve been going between motel rooms when I can afford one and “camping” out of my car - until I lost that, too, because I fell too far behind on the lease payments. Thanksgiving was pure torture this year; for the first time in my adult life, I couldn’t cook anything and it truly made me appreciate how much of a blessing it is to do something so simple as make dinner.

My third attempt to pass the bar exam, a family emergency, and some medical issues happening all within a few weeks of each other essentially bankrupt me, and I’ve been struggling to get out of this pit of quicksand ever since. With every setback, it became harder to explain what was going on. Every time I disclosed my situation to somebody, I was opening myself up to rejection and the grief that comes with realizing how little people care once you reach a certain level of destitution. It’s a suffocating loneliness that I wouldn’t wish on anybody, ever. If it wasn’t for the small handful of people who’ve been keeping me afloat, I wouldn’t be here right now.

Otto, Mila and I just moved back home from Texas to be closer to my nieces and nephews, and I’ve never needed help getting back on my feet more than I do now. My current housing arrangement ends on January 3rd and I am desperately trying to raise enough money to have a permanent address by then. I will be seeking out every resource available and continuing to apply for as many jobs as I can, but I cannot manage this all by myself anymore. Every single dollar makes a huge difference for me right now, so if you are able to spare a few, I will be eternally grateful. Thank you so much
