As many of you know, my sweet, loving Mom has a blood disease called CREST Syndrome (Scleroderma) that seems to have moved internally. After much testing, we aren't sure what is exactly happening. "It's a complicated situation", stated her doctor. Currently, she has a mass of ulcers in her stomach and an inflamed, deteriorated pancreas. She is down to 98 pounds from 115 in the last month of being in and out of the hospital due to vomiting and pain. The goal 11 days ago, was to start her on JTube feeding (nasal) to bypass the pancreas and goes down below the stomach (in small intestine), for much needed nutrition and to gain weight for possible pancreas surgery. "There is barely anything to operate on, but we need to get her nourished first the next 6 weeks, meet with a pancreatic surgeon, and go from there." Mom hasn't gained any weight yet and her feed (nasal) may need to be increased according to her home nurse, after we meet with the dr tomorrow. The bags she is on run $50/day, and medicare doesn't cover the expensive type she is on/needs. Cedar Park Regional graciously gave us her first two week supply!
I'm not asking for medical expenses right now, but sort-of; my Mom sleeps in an old, cheap recliner because it hurts her stomach laying down flat in a bed, she can't because of her tube/choking (feed is pushing 24/7) and because of the lack of fat on her, her tailbone is very pained and stressed now, even after trying many things.
Short of getting a medical bed, she could really use and needs a nice medical-type recliner. She is in it 23 hours a day and it faces where she can see Nature outside.
Many of you keep asking how you can help...this is it.

In February of 2000, I met a woman who would become like family to me. Rhonda Moore spent three days a week at my house for years. Sure, she was there to keep it clean, but her role of friend became much more central and much more important in my life. A month after Rhonda started coming to my house, her firsts grandchild was born. A month after that, my first child was born. I have pictures of Zach following Rhonda around the house with his very own toilet brush! Over the years, we rejoiced together in the births of many grandchildren and my three boys. We mourned together the deaths of her son, her husband and my mother. Rhonda has always been my cheerleader, my confidant and my shoulder to cry on. The only time she ever hid anything from me was when she first got sick. She didn't want me to worry about the incredible pain that she was in. Just like family, she was trying to protect me. She also knew that her days of being a fixture in my house were going to be coming to a close. It was impossible for me to imagine. My kids didn't know life without Rhonda. But she did have to leave, and with the insanity of life and growing boys, our visits have been far too few. However, the love between us remains and when we are together, just like family, it is as if we have never been apart. Rhonda is a beautiful soul and blesses everyone who knows her.
