Help Lovie Defeat Breast Cancer!

Donation protected
On September 19, 2014 our mother, Lovie Johnson was diagnosed with Stage 2A Breast Cancer. While the news came as a shock and sent worry and concern to our lives, we cannot dwell.

Now is the time for us to go to battle and fight this disease. Our mom is looking at needing 6 cycles of Chemotherapy, surgery and a host of other treatments that can last anywhere from 2 to 5 years. She has never had any major or minor medical challenges. Even with the best insurance there will be huge out of pocket expense as well as everyday family expenses, so Lovie can maintain a normal lifestyle for her high school son, James during this time. We do not have the financial resource to cover the costs that could be over $150,000. We are asking for your help to offset the costs in excess of what the insurance does not pay. This is a costly estimate but at this point her treatment could be lengthy. She was hospitalized for over a week right after the 1st chemo cycle due to complications.

No donation is too small.

We were glad to help our mother who has always been healthy, and always did one very important thing as a woman, self-breast exams.

This simple procedure might have been her life saver. She began to feel a pinch in her right breast, but having a history of boils her first thought was to conduct another routine self-exam. This was her first step in this long journey to come. Our mom discovered a lump during the self-exam and immediately scheduled an appointment to get it assessed. Her Primary Care Provider examined the lump and referred her to an imaging center who diagnosed the lump.  Her next step was to see a Breast Specialist who conducted a fine needle biopsy which confirmed our worst fears, it was Breast Cancer. After an MRI confirmation, our mother decides to put her care in the hands of Emory’s Winship Team of Cancer Specialists. On October 9, 2014 she met with her chosen Oncologist for a full consultation and received an extensive and aggressive treatment plan; 6 cycles of Chemotherapy, 1 every 3 weeks, ultimately Breast Surgery and further treatment. Before she decides to undergo a Lumpectomy or Mastectomy, she will also be in need of Genetic Counseling, due to the high risk of cancer in our family. Once the surgery is completed radiation will possibly be the next step.  As prevention from reoccurrence, for the next year after surgery she will need 1, IV a month with medication.

We know that our mom is strong enough to get through this and with your financial help, we can prove it. Any donation helps and will eliminate the stress and worry that comes along with this battle. Breast Cancer is serious enough; hopefully if my sister, my brother and I can raise enough money, we can remove the unnecessary stress from this battle as well. If $1 is all you can spare, it will be greatly appreciated. It all adds up, help our mother live happily and as healthy as possible so she can continue to watch her Son and Grandchildren grow and develop.
I'm sure most of you know her as that "Team Mom" since 1998 always there for the players, or the MHC employee you can get an answer from or your problem solved. That's Our Mother & she can use a little help.Thank you for considering - Lovie's children, Rosalind, Samantha & James!
