My mother, Laila, has spent her life doing the best she can for others, not only within her family, but for complete strangers as well, never expecting anything in return.
Now, she's been diagnosed with Stage 3 cervical cancer, and it's time for us to do something for her.
She doesn't qualify for medical insurance, because my father (the only breadwinner in the family) makes "too much." But his income barely covers the rent and my college tuition while managing to put food on the table, so how can we be expected to pay the ever-mounting medical bills? My mother spent one week in the hospital and the charges came out to nearly $10,000.
We can't even afford to have a car to transport her back and forth to the hospital for her appointments.
The diagnosis was made in the beginning of March 2013, and we are in the beginning stages of her treatment...there's a long road ahead of us and we can't do it alone.
I graduated from college in May 2013, and my mother was there to see me walk in my cap and gown. I need her there to see me walk down the aisle at my wedding...even if it's twenty years from now. She's always taught me to be strong and not give up, even when the odds seem stacked against me.
I want to do the same for her...and I'm asking for your help.
Please. Any amount you can give will take some of the weight off my father and our family and help my mother on the road to recovery.
