Equality for us meant being able to marry in Iowa, We are a Bi National couple, American from North Carolina and me the British woman. We have never wanted to be apart after 8 years together, Because of the laws of the USA we are not allowed to spend any more than 90 days together in one year in America, and 6 months in England, and a marriage cannot be based upon separation, Think about how you would feel if you were told you could not see your spouse for 2 thirds of the year, I know most marriages work on 2 people seeing each others faces daily, making love, sharing jokes, sharing issues with work etc. together, and that those 2 people form a bond of strength based on a daily routine, even if that means scheduling a date night once a week and making special time together. Well for us this means not being apart, and I am NOT going to be a LOVE EXILE.
We want to come home instead of living in forced exile in the UK Our attorney has already been paid $1900 do do this work, and we paid that from our own pockets after cashing in early on a pension. The London Field office needed to clarify some more documentation and this has currently added a huge bill of $5500 to our invoice. This is money we do not have. I am disabled, Dana is my carer. So money is tight. And we are also very humbled in having to ask for any help.
We need to come home and look after Dana's ailing family. Her Mom looks after her brother and her father, And dad has just been into Mcleods Hospital south carolina after another heart attack, he is living on one kidney and his heart valves are now not working effectively, he is not eligible for any further surgery because of his ailing health.
We have a business in America which we cannot run from England, we have our own home and it needs us to live in it...
We really have been soul searching for an answer to this issue, and can see no other way out other than to ask for help from the wider community.
No love should be forced to decide between one country or another, no love should be forced to make decisions about living seperate lives because of a countries decision on immigration. Love is Love.
...Please think about getting us home, and becoming our secret Santa. God bless you for reading
