Love for Diana

Diana is a loving wife and mother of two children. Diana gave up working full-time in 1999 to start a family and gave birth to her son in 2000. Four years later, she gave birth to her daughter in 2004. In the fall of 2007 when her daughter was able to start pre-school, Diana began working again. Within three months time, she began to get very sick. One month later in January of 2008, she was diagnosed with Stage-IV lung cancer. She immediately started treatment and was no longer able to work from its side-effects.

Diana was diagnosed with a very rare form of lung cancer; "Bronchoalveolar Carcinoma (BAC) - non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC)". Not much known about this cancer and it's been found frequently in non-smokers and women. Diana is a non-smoker. There has been speculation it could have been caused by exposure to chemicals, possibly second-hand smoke, mold, etc., but there is nothing concrete as to the cause. It's been very difficult for her not knowing the cause of her condition.

Treatment for this type of cancer requires constant monitoring and multiple combinations of chemo treatments. Unfortunately, this cancer never rests, constantly mutating and requiring the next latest and greatest trial drugs. The latest drugs are no longer working and the options of new trials are far and few between, requiring either travel to other states or relying on aggressive drugs that destroy her quality of life.

Diana is a survivor. No matter what is thrown at her, she has been able to take it. Requiring treatment every 2 to 3 weeks has taken its toll, but she still fights to continue to raise her children and have relationships with all her friends and family. Now in her 7th year of being diagnosed and still at Stage-IV, doctors call her a miracle of survival. The survival rate for this type of cancer is 5 years, but her family is positive she will stay on the forefront of the latest treatments available and continue to fight the fight for herself, her family and any others who have been diagnosed with the same.  In May of 2015, she was diagnosed with brain cancer. 2 tumors metastasized on the brain. On 6-2-2015 she had gamma knife radiosurgery  (a type of radiation surgery) done and it seems to be working. She now has this additional battle to fight.

Diana is currently being treated at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, Michigan. All money raised for Diana will go towards new medical bills that aren't covered by the institute or insurance, travel/lodging services needed for new trials/treatments not provided in Michigan and for the back-log of medical bills insurances did not cover. Any help to maintain her quality of life will never be forgotten.
