Lori Kreis Bowen - Kicking Lyme
Thank you for visiting the fund for Frank and Lori Bowen as they travel through this leg of her Lyme journey together.
Nothing takes God by surprise…Frank & Lori meeting in 2007 when he was an IT Tech at DocuTeam (now Sharp) & Lori worked for their customer, Pinnacle Promotions…when they married in December 2009…or when their little miracle, Isabel, was born on December 17, 2011…God prepared them for each of these life-changing events. When Lori’s health started to deteriorate…God wasn’t surprised…He knew he had prepared them for this part of their journey…TOGETHER!
While Lori was infected over 30 years ago with Lyme Disease, it took a cataclysmic event in 2006 to wake the disease. By 2007, Lori’s fatigue had become more intrusive in her life, eventually causing her to lose her managerial role at her dream job. Her body continued to deteriorate as the symptoms ramped up in quantity, severity and length.
After she had seen the “best” specialists in Atlanta for 8 long years, having been misdiagnosed with everything under the sun - Lori was finally diagnosed with Lyme Disease. Lyme is called “The Great Imitator” because its symptoms mimic many other diseases, such as Lupus, RA, Cancer, MS, ALS, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Bi-Polar disorder, Vasculitis, etc. (Lori has symptoms mimicking all of these diseases). It can affect any organ of the body, including the brain and nervous system, muscles and joints, and the heart.
Lori, Frank, and their 3 year-old daughter, Isabel, all need your prayers as they continue to face this most difficult time in their lives. After exhausting all treatment possibilities, God has led them to a facility in Arizona that uses groundbreaking, experimental treatment for late stage Lyme Disease. On complete faith in God, Frank and Lori left their daughter with Lori’s family, and flew to Arizona on Tuesday. Lori received her first treatment yesterday, and the doctors feel she will be there at least a month, if not longer. She needs treatment slowly, so it does not shock her fragile body.
Unfortunately, Chronic Lyme Disease is not recognized by insurance as a “real” disease, so insurance does not cover the treatments, nor the oral medications. Added up (assuming only 4 weeks are needed), the treatment, medications, extended stay hotels, flights and rental car are expected to cost between $30k -50k…depending on how Lori’s system responds.
