Engedi (Lorenzo) received a new kidney!!
My dear friend was diagnosed with end stage renal disease, in May of 2003 and spent the next 14 years on Dialysis. After undergoing rigorous testing he received approval from his doctors to be listed for a Kidney Transplant. Without the gift of a transplant Lorenzo would be resigned to enduring dialysis treatments for the rest of his life.
A Long Hard-Fought Battle
Many of us can attest to Lorenzo's struggles over the years with hospitalizations, infections, emergency room visits and other complications. Through it all he persevered with the grace and fortitude worthy of the admiration of all who know him.
Thankfully, Lorenzo received his gift of life on November 18, 2017!!
Lorenzo consistently expresses his gratitude for the love and support his family, friends, and many kind-hearted strangers have shown him during such a difficult phase of his life. However long his process of recovery may be, Lorenzo is looking forward to living a long and healthy life, thanks to the sacrifice of his donor. The future feels bright and he is slowly regaining his strength, but to be honest, he needs a little help right now.
I think he deserves it...his reputation of being there when his friends, strangers, or students need him, precedes him. Let’s return the favor.

The average kidney transplant costs over $335,000!!! And that’s only the beginning.
His recovery requires much physical rest. As such, he is restricted from working his second job for the next 6 months, which he depends on to make ends meet... as many of us do. Post-transplant medications are very expensive too, and at this point they are as necessary as dialysis was before!
Be as generous as you can!
Any amount is enough. You don’t even have to pay it all now. If you’d like to offer $100 over the next 4 months, you can! $5 just this once...GREAT! How about the $8 instead of that pack of cigarettes or lunch out tomorrow?
