Liz's Cancer Treatment Fund

Donation protected

This is my daughter, Elizabeth Wood. Her nickname is Liz, and she's going to be 39 years old on May 9.

Liz is the single mother of my darling grandson Austin, who just turned 18 in December. He's still finishing up his senior year in high school online, while also working full time (two jobs until recently) to help with household expenses.

In March, Liz was diagnosed with Stage 2B cervical cancer.  She recently began a series of 25 radiation treatments (5 per week) and 6 chemotherapy infusions (one per week, so on Wednesdays she gets radiation followed immediately by chemo--ugh). After all of that is complete, she will have another several weeks of intensive internal radiation.

Fortunately, Liz has insurance (such as it is) through her job, but there is a $2000 deductible and she will not be reimbursed for 100% of her treatment until she pays another $6000 out of pocket.

Add to that 6-8 weeks of lost income during treatment, which was barely enough to pay the bills anyway, and you can imagine the stress the financial situation has placed on my daughter. She is a nurse and she struggles to go to work caring for others even when she is sick, in pain or is so fatigued she can barely hold her eyes open. She needs to stop working and concentrate on getting well.

We don't really know how much all the treatment will cost, including about a dozen different prescription and over-the-counter medications for nausea, constipation, diarrhea, pain, breakthrough pain, etc., so we are guessing she and Austin will need about $15,000 to get them through this struggle.

I am here to support Liz and Austin, having come from my home in Mexico, where I moved last year so that I could live more cheaply and stretch my Social Security income farther. I do the cooking and cleaning and my financial contribution is groceries: all organic when I can get it. Thank God for our wonderful local farmers markets.

And thank God for good friends, many of whom have offered to help in any way they can. You may be one of those friends, or the friend of a friend. We are so grateful for your prayers and messages of concern. Now we hope you will consider a donation to Liz's Cancer Fund. Any amount is appreciated. The blessings you receive, and our eternal gratitude, are all we have to offer in return for your kindness. Thank you SO MUCH!
