Three Little Books Co. is an online book retailer dedicated to promoting indie books and diverse books to the community.
But we wanted to do something more. We decided that the best way we can continue to further diversity in both the publishing and reading communities was by helping to further more diverse voices.
For that reason, we decided to start the Little Voices Book Box and Anthology. The Little Voices Book Box will feature a diverse book each month accompanied by a previously unpublished diverse short story. This way, we can promote already published diverse voices and allow these voices to help bolster other, unpublished voices in our community. All short stories chosen will be published into one complete short story collection at the end of the year.
The money that we're raising will go to paying our authors, our cover artist, and getting these stories into print. While many websites publish diverse stories, we want our authors to be given monetary compensation for their work so they can continue to create stories and speak for the needs of marginalized people. We also want the final product to be something that writers can be proud of and put on their CV in the future.
With everything that's happened lately, we want more than anything for diverse writers and readers to find their place in our community. We really think that this program will help writers find their niche, gain experience, improve their writing, and connect with the readers who need that writing the most. If we don't receive the money we need, we'll still move forward with the anthology, but we don't want to cut corners or have to cut compensation to our writers, so really, any amount helps.
*Our anthology and book box will accept pieces about the following marginalizations: race, ethnicity, religion, sexuality, gender, ability, and class.*
