ANDREW SAYEN'S "HEART FUND"
Normally, this condition is diagnosed in children in their
teens. In Andrew's case he was born with severe hypertrophy. He has been evaluated every 6 months since
birth. Medication helps his heart to pump as efficiently as possible but he has
reached the point where open heart surgery to remove excess muscle has been
recommended. This procedure is called a septal myectomy. Andrew will be traveling
to the Mayo Clinic early 2014 for further tests and surgery. He will be in the hospital for 5 to 7 days
after surgery and will be home recovering for 8 to 10 weeks. A teacher will be coming to the home to keep Andrew up-to-date. Because Andrew is
so young, it is likely that he will need this procedure done again in the
future. This heart condition is the leading cause of sudden cardiac death in
young athletes. Eventually, Andrew may need a Heart transplant. For more information on this condition, go to www.4hcm.org.
Andrew is a bright young man in Kindergarten. He has a love for football. His
favorite team is the "Washington Redskins" although he loves all NFL and
College teams. His other loves are Monster
Trucks, SpongeBob and Patrick and playing on his drums. He loves to be active,
and his parents worry all the time if he is being over active. The doctors say
to let him enjoy all he can. Andrew is the youngest child of 4 and he loves his
siblings dearly. Thank You for supporting.
Andrew's surgery went well. He is still in ICU and taking each day slowly . Please continue your support and prayers.
