Meet Linda Massie – 62 years young, an amazing wife, mother of four sons (and four daughters-in-law), “MawMaw” of eleven grandchildren, and humble servant of Almighty God.
Linda’s life has always revolved around her unwavering faith in God and her unconditional love of her family. Linda enjoys serving her family and keeping up with her precious grandkids, which has become more challenging over the past few years, as she has faced some health issues. One specific condition that she has been coping with is called cervical spinal stenosis. This condition consists of the narrowing of the spinal canal in the neck, and when the nerves or spinal cord become squeezed, usually results in very painful symptoms.
On October 26, 2015, in an attempt to improve her own quality of life and receive some relief from these symptoms, Linda went in for a type of surgery that was supposed to do just that. Unfortunately what ensued was a devastating spinal injury, which left her completely paralyzed.
Linda has a giant mountain to climb in recovering from this injury, and has begun a slow and difficult journey uphill. She knows, as well as the rest of us, that we will need to take this one day at a time. Over the last two months, after being transferred to an acute care hospital, she has made very slow gains. As of Christmas day, her gift to her family was completing her first 24-hour cycle completely off of the ventilator and breathing on her own. She has not made any major gains in mobility, still being paralyzed from the shoulders down. However, in the last two weeks she has begun slight movement within her right arm. As of Monday, December 28th, Linda has been able to finally speak again using the assistance of a talking tracheostomy valve. She is currently in the care of a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility. One day, Lord-willing, our prayer is that Linda will be able to be back in her own home, and that we may be able to use any resource available to give her the best possible quality of life.
We have turned to GoFundMe in order to request immediate financial assistance due to the overwhelming costs related to Linda’s ongoing care, and the mounting travel, bills, and daily living expenses for our father, Randall Massie, as he remains steadfastly near his wife’s side. This mission is incredibly important to her entire family, as we attempt to show her the love and devotion that she has always shown us.
