Lauren's Journey

Donation protected
Lauren is the sweetest little girl. Despite her small stature, she is full of spunk and spirit. We are learning that she is a fighter!

Lauren was sick in March 2014 with the stomach bug that seemed to be hitting all the youngsters. She got better, then got sick again. We took her to the pediatrician, and the pediatrician said to take her to Children's ER to get hydrated. Lauren was complaining of a headache, but we figured it was due to dehydration. However, after giving her fluids, her headache wasn't subsiding. We decided to run a CT scan just as a precaution. Unfortunately, the CT scan showed a mass behind her right eye. Lauren underwent a 5 hour brain surgery the next morning to remove the tumor.

Within a few days, we learned that Lauren has a very rare and aggresive form of cancer called Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (AT/RT). This cancer requires treatment of 12-18 months of chemotherapy, as well as radiation. While the chemotherapy can be done locally in Atlanta, the radiation cannot. We will be traveling to Jacksonville, FL in late May for six weeks of radiation and chemotherapy combination treatment. This requires us to stay the entire six weeks without returning home.

So many people have generously offered to help us, and we feel that helping with the travel and lodging expenses is the most practical way at this time. We truly appreciate your support!
