Help Aid Laura in Her Fight with Late Stage Neurological Lyme Disease

Laura Glidden is one of the most inspirational people you will ever meet. As I think back to the first time that we met (a memorable yet disastrous first date) I could not not help but be drawn in by the way she chose to live her life. She is a kind, generous, and energetic young woman ready to take on any challenge she faces (including myself). A few days into our relationship she told me that she had Lyme disease. I felt well acquainted with this illness but as she continued to explain her situation I got my first taste of what she had been through and continues to go through everyday.

Laura’s battle with Lyme disease is going on twelve years. The bacteria and related coinfections attack her brain stem and cause severe pain and neurological complications. During this time she has been in and out of hospitals, on and off of oral and IV medications, and has had a number of surgeries. Three of these surgeries occurred in the first week of our relationship. It is a bit of a mystery to me where she finds her strength. Her antibiotic treatment and symptoms should be completely debilitating but there are many days when I struggle to keep up with her. She is an avid runner, surfer, mountain biker, and the best Auntie that her nieces and nephews could ever ask for.

Laura and I were married late in December of 2013. In a world where no one is promised tomorrow we wanted to make sure that whatever happened in her battle we would face it together. Laura has been blessed by the support of her parents, family, our local church community, fellow surfers, friends, and strangers.

Treatment for Lyme disease is currently a grey area in the medical profession. Many of her medical costs, IV treatments, and surgeries are not covered by any medical insurance. Without the generosity of others we could not keep up with Laura’s medical expenses. Laura will be starting a nine month IV treatment regimen that will be paid completely out of pocket. Cost for ongoing treatment will be between fifty and one hundred thousand dollars. Any money raised in this campaign will be used solely for medical treatment. If for any reason money is not used or needed for treatment it will be donated to others in their battle with Lyme disease. We are humbled by your financial support, prayers, and sharing of this campaign in your community.

With Love,
William Glidden
