Dear friends and family new and old,
Laura Kello is a dear friend, a traditional herbalist, guide and mentor with an enormous heart. She has helped countless people through difficult times over two decades of service and practice. So many of us have called out to her when our experience is more than we think we can handle. She is always there to hold space and offer comfort, with kindness and integrity and humor and wisdom. Laura is not the kind of person to ask for others’ help, but she needs us all right now.
In a few weeks, Laura needs to have gastrointestinal surgery. The surgery is not life-threatening, but will avoid more serious problems in the future and will greatly improve her quality of life. Laura’s recovery will be 4 to 6 weeks before she can return to work or normal physical activity.
Laura has limited insurance that will not cover a significant portion of the surgery and post-op treatment. She does not have savings to pay for this. She also will have no income during her recovery, to pay for basic expenses. As many of you know, our sister lives a simple life in the woods on a very limited budget. This medical situation puts an enormous financial strain on her life.
We have started this campaign to offer support to Laura in this difficult time. Our goal is to raise $20K – approximately $12K of that is for direct medical expenses, while the balance is to assist in meeting other basic needs and help her in making a graceful transition back to work. We appreciate you taking a minute to read this over and consider making a contribution in any amount that works for you.
