My name is Christopher Astacio. I am the Head Softball coach for a special group of girls in the South Bronx, New York. My girls who I consider like daughters have endured what most adults have yet or never wish to experience. There are times where I commend them for their strength and fortitude. Since most of my girls do not have fathers, they look to me. This team has grown together so much and I would love you to see their accomplishments. Dealing with stomach cancer, my team has given me the strength and support to stay positive. Below is our short documentary conveying our journey.
The Lady Tigers has become so much more than just mere softball to our girls, our school, and to me. For our girls, softball has become a way of life, a means to escape the harsh reality of their circumstances and simply enjoy being a teen. As for me, they have become like my daughters who I have adopted into my heart.
Recently, The Lady Tigers have been invited to Chicago by a team called the "Chicago Fireworks"! Please view their video invitation and our repsonse.The Lady Tigers Response:
Working closely with the Fireworks coach, Julie Moore Venn, I am determined to send my girls to Chicago to experience an opportunity of a lifetime at Bandits stadium in April 2016. They will have the chance to step foot in a real softball stadium, hear their name announced as they walk out onto the field, feel the lights overhead, etc.
Join me in conveying to Lady Tigers, my daughters whom I have adopted into my heart, that they are not alone in their struggles. Send girls who only know the coldness of the inner city streets of the South Bronx to the warm hearts located in Chicago. Help my girls witness a much brighter world beyond their concrete jungle. My girls lives will be forever changed knowing that they are those who care for them. In turn, they will start to believe in themselves, unlocking their potential, further steering them towards the path of success.
Funds received from this unique project will go towards transportation, hotel and food for 30 Lady tigers and 5 chaperones for 3-4 days.
