Love for Itty

Sitty “Itty” Fitriany, a 2018-19 Rotary exchange student to Northfield, Minnesota was an exceptional ambassador of Indonesian culture and a joy to her many American friends. 



Back in Indonesia now, her family has contracted COVID-19, brought into their household by her older brother, a doctor, who was serving as a frontline healthcare worker. All four family members came down with the disease.  Sadly, Itty’s mother passed away on July 3. Adding to the sadness, Itty herself has been quarantined at home alone while her father and brother were treated in the hospital. A kind aunt has lived separately upstairs to ensure that Itty has the basics she needs.

On top of these difficulties, being quarantined has prevented Itty from taking her comprehensive exams, which determine which college she will attend, a huge deal in Indonesia.  She is sick, tired, stressed out and grieving the death of her mother.

The purpose of this GoFundMe campaign is not only to provide Itty with monetary support for unanticipated expenses, it is to show Itty that she really matters to us. It is an Indonesian tradition to give money to the family of someone who has died.  With mail and currency conversion issues, though, it is complicated for individual Americans to send money overseas. This website allows you to easily contribute to a group gift which will then be safely transferred to Itty. With one dollar being worth over 14,500 Indonesian Rupiah, the currency conversion really works in our favor and even a $5 donation will go a long way.
